Restroom Planning for a 5K, Mud Run or Charity Race

Race restrooms fail in the 30 minutes before the start. A 400-runner 5K and a 1,000-runner mud run in our calls both came down to the same problem: the start line.
Why is race math different?
At a party, guests spread out over hours. At a race, almost everyone uses the restroom in the half hour before the gun. Count for the start, not the day.
How many toilets at the start?
About one per 50 runners at the start cluster — 8 for 400 runners, 20 for 1,000 — plus at least one accessible unit and a wash station.
Should women get more units?
Yes, if you can. Women's lines run longer. One mud-run organizer in our calls planned 6 to 8 women's stalls to 4 men's for exactly that reason.
What about the course and finish?
Put 1 or 2 units at the finish and at long-course water stops. Mud runs should add wash stations at the finish.

Can you clean it every night during our three-day festival?
Yes. Nightly service for multi-day events is scheduled after the gates close and priced per visit.
